Mr. Jeffery A. Shields was inspired to serve our country from an early age. Following in the footsteps of his father, who was active duty military for 24 years, Mr. Shields joined the Army in 1983, beginning his career at Fort Dix, NJ. Mr. Shields says that he never felt particularly pushed into the military by his father, who was also an Army recruiter, but that observing it from his vantage point still appealed to him and ultimately stirred him to enlist. It is hardly a secret that training and development are key elements of the Publication Services Division’s (PSD) Center of Excellence strategy. The PSD, which is part of the Logistics and Technical Support Directorate (LTSD), is comprised of five branches that offer an array of services, with the mission of training and development falling under the Technical Publications and Data Management (TDPM) Branch’s Education Development Group.

On 31 May 2023, CECOM Integrated Logistics Support Center (ILSC) hosted its 2nd annual Mental Health Awareness Day at Aberdeen Proving Ground (APG). In light of the fact that mental health conditions affect nearly one in five adults in the United States and are closely tied to issues such as substance abuse and suicide attempts, this event was a timely way to raise awareness among the APG workforce about the significant role that mental health plays in the overall wellbeing of individuals.

Once again, CECOM Security Assistance Management Directorate (SAMD) was able to generate a spirit of collaboration within the Aberdeen Proving Ground (APG) community. On 21 and 22 March 2023, SAMD, in coordination with Army Contracting Command-Aberdeen Proving Ground (ACC-APG) and Office of Small Business Programs-Aberdeen Proving Ground (OSBP-APG), held their 3rd annual Foreign Military Sales (FMS) Industry Day, a tentpole event comprising two days that fosters an opportunity to support Security Cooperation and Security Assistance objectives by developing commercial markets and Defense Industrial Bases throughout the world. Under the FMS program, customers can depend on integrity and the standards set by the Department of Defense (DoD).

On 1 February 2023, the Logistics and Technical Support Directorate (LTSD) held a Meet and Greet breakfast at the Mallette Training Facility (Building 6008) to recognize the members of its newest division — the Logistics Data Division (LDD). LTSD Associate Director, Mr. Abel Salgado, addressed the workforce during the program.

A hot topic on Integrated Logistics Support Center (ILSC) employees’ minds has been the Supply Chain Optimization (SCO) effort, as its impact has been felt at every level. SCO marked a notable shift in the way that Army Materiel Command (AMC) is viewing topics like technical depth, accountability, and developmental opportunities. This implementation and transition, like anything truly worthwhile relating to workplace agility, will take some time and a level of committed buy-in from all involved.
